Apple rum cake

1 | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
1 | teaspoon | Baking soda |
1 | cup | Flour |
2 | tablespoons | Hot water |
1 | teaspoon | Vanilla |
½ | cup | Chopped nuts |
2½ | cup | Apples; pared and cubed |
½ | cup | Butter |
¾ | cup | Brown sugar |
¼ | cup | Cream |
½ | teaspoon | Rum-flavored extract OR; 1-2 T. rum |
Directions

RUM SAUCE
Cake - Cream together shortening and sugar. Add remaining cake ingredients through apples in order listed. Mix well. Pour into greased, 9-inch round cake pan or pie plate. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes.
Rum Sauce - Melt butter. Add brown sugar and boil 1 minute. Add cream and boil a few more seconds. Remove from heat and stir in rum extract or rum.
