Apple chutney - bon appetit

Ingredients

3cupsFinely chopped peeled Granny Smith apples (about 4 medium)
1cupChopped onion
1cupPacked golden brown sugar
1cupWater
¾cupCider vinegar
½cupChopped red bell pepper
½cupDried currants
1tablespoonChopped peeled fresh ginger
teaspoonChopped garlic
1teaspoonSalt
½teaspoonDried crushed red pepper
¼teaspoonGround nutmeg
¼teaspoonGround allspice
Pinch of cloves

Directions

Combine all ingredients in heavy large saucepan. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer until liquid is slightly syrupy, stirring occasionally, about 1 hour.

Season chutney to taste with salt and pepper. Cool to room tem- perature. (Can be prepared 1 week ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before serving.) Note: Good with pork
