| Measure | Ingredient |

| ½ cup | Soft shortening |
| ¾ cup | Sugar |
| 1 \N | Egg |
| 1 tablespoon | Milk or cream |
| 1 teaspoon | Vanilla or lemon extract |
| 1¼ cup | Flour |
| ¼ teaspoon | Baking powder |
| ¼ teaspoon | Salt |
Mix together shortening, sugar, and egg. Stir in milk and extract. Sift together and stir in flour, baking powder, and salt.
Chill dough. Roll thin (1/16"). Cut out cookies with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Frost and decorate.
