South carolina sweet potato tea biscuits (lifetime)

Ingredients

| 2 | cups | All-purpose flour |
| 2 | cups | Mashed sweet potatoes or yams |
| 1 | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
| 1½ | cup | Butter OR shortening |
| ¼ | cup | Buttermilk |
| 4 | teaspoons | Baking powder |
| ¼ | cup | Sugar |
| ½ | cup | Chopped pecans; optional |
Directions
1.In a bowl sift together flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Add butter to flour and mix until you get a grainy consistency. Add mashed sweet potatoes, pecans and enough buttermilk to make a soft but not sticky dough.
2.Knead the dough on a lightly floured board for 1 minute, then roll out the dough to ½ inch thickness. Cut into rounds with a 2-inch cutter or use a shot glass or tulip shaped champagne glass.
3.Place rounds on a lightly greased pan or cookie sheet and bake in a pre-heated 425 degree oven for 15 minutes. Serve hot with homemade jam and butter.
