| 1 | teaspoon | Baking powder |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Baking soda |
| ¾ | cup | Oats, old-fashioned or quick |
| 1 | cup | Brown sugar, firmly packed |
| ¾ | cup | Sugar |
| ½ | cup | Shortening |
| 1 | teaspoon | Cinnamon |
| ½ | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
| 1 | Egg | |
| 1 | cup | Pumpkin, canned or fresh |
| 1 | cup | Figs, dried; chopped |
| ¾ | cup | Walnuts; chopped |
| 1 | tablespoon | Orange peel; grated |
Directions
Mix and sift flour, salt, baking powder, and soda; stir in oats; set aside. Cream sugars with shortening and spices; beat in egg. Add flour mixture alternately with pumpkin. Stir in dried figs, walnuts and orange peel. Drop by Tablespoons on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 F degrees for about 15 minutes.
