Pickled herring -1

Measure Ingredient
7 pounds Fresh herring fillets; * see
2½ quart White vinegar
6 \N Cinnamon sticks
¼ cup Allspice; (whole)
¼ cup Mace; (leaves)
¼ cup Black peppercorns
¼ cup Whole cloves
3 larges Onions; sliced thinly
1¾ cup Sugar

Combine all ingredients except herring and boil for 15 minutes. Add herring, let simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool in liquid; refrigerate.
