Heart shaped cakes

Measure Ingredient
1½ cup Flour
⅓ cup Sugar
½ teaspoon Soda
1 pinch Nutmeg
¼ cup Chilled lard
⅓ cup Buttermilk

Heat oven to 425. In bowl mix flour, sugar, soda & nutmeg. With cold fingers rub cold lard into dry ingredients. Make a well in center, add buttermilk & work with 1 hand into dough that can be rolled. Dust rolling surface with flour. shape dough into balls & roll into 8" circle. With table knife dipped in flour cut circle in half then each half into thirds to produce 6 wedges. shape each wedge into heart.

Grease sheet & place hearts on it so they do not touch. Bake 15 minutes. Remove from oven & sprinkle tops immediately with sugar.

When cool, eat.
