Green pepper in tomato sauce

Ingredients

| ½ | cup | Thinly sliced onion |
| 2 | Cloves garlic; minced | |
| ¼ | cup | Olive oil |
| 2 | cups | Stewed tomatoes or 1 1-lb can |
| 2 | teaspoons | Sugar |
| 1 | teaspoon | Salt |
| 1 | dash | Pepper |
| ½ | teaspoon | Basil |
| 4 | larges | Green peppers; cut into 3/4\" strips (up to 5) |
Directions
Cook onion and garlic in 1 tbsp of the oil till just tender; add tomatoes and spices. Simmer uncovered till sauce is slightly thick, about 20 min.
Cook pepper strips in remaining 3 tbsp oil, turning frequently till tender but still crisp. LIft from oil to serving dish; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour tomato sauce over green peppers; serve at once.
