Yield: 1 Servings
Measure | Ingredient |
---|---|
¾ cup | Melted shortening |
¼ cup | Molasses |
1 cup | Sugar |
1 large | Egg |
2 teaspoons | Baking soda |
2 cups | Flour (Not self rising) |
½ teaspoon | Cloves |
1 teaspoon | Cinnamon |
1 teaspoon | Ginger (you can use less but we like the ginger taste) |
½ teaspoon | Salt |
Mix sugar and molasses into melted shortening. Add beaten egg. Sift dry ingredients and mix in. Chill dough about 1 hour. Form into balls about the size of a large walnut, roll in sugar.
Place balls on ungreased baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes. (Until set but not hard) Balls will be puffy when you remove from oven. Drop cookie sheet on surface so cookies fall. The cookies will crinkle and have a beautiful appearance.
Remove from sheet to cooling rack. Store in airtight container.
These use to disappear before they were cool when my kids were still at home--so I usually doubled the batch and hoped there would be some left for the freezer. Posted to TNT - Prodigy's Recipe Exchange Newsletter by mreingarcia@... (Marilyn R Garcia) on Apr 23, 1997
