Curried cabbage with peas

Oil for stir-frying (1 tbsp. or less)

2Bay leaves
¼teaspoonTurmeric
1tablespoonGround Cayenne pepper
1Green chili; minced (Jalapenos work fine)
¾teaspoonSalt
¾teaspoonSugar
¼teaspoonGaram masala (spice mixture; available at most Indian groceries)

Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 14:45:10 -0400 From: zorro@... (David Marcus & Peggy Lamberson) Heat the oil in a wide pot. Add cumin & bay leaves. When bay leaves start to color, add cabbage. Stir for 30 seconds. Add turmeric and cayenne, stir and cover. Cook on low for 5 minutes until cabbage is barely tender. Add chili, peas, salt, and sugar. Uncover and add garam masala. Remove bay leaves before serving. 4 servings.
