2 gallons | Cold water |
1 cup | Barnyard lime |
5 pounds | White sugar |
2 quarts | Apple cider vinegar |
1 pack | Cinnamon sticks; broken |
1 teaspoon | Mace |
1 teaspoon | Turmeric |
1 teaspoon | Salt |
1 tablespoon | Whole cloves |
First day: Slice cucumbers in ¼-inch slices & soak in lime water for 24 hours (2 gallons cold water & 1 cup barnyard lime). Second day: Rince cucumbers 2 or 3 times. Drain well & handle carefully. To the cucumbers add remaining ingredients which have been mixed well. Let stand 24 hours. Third day: Cook mixture of cucumbers & spices together for 20 minutes after boiling starts. Seal HOT.
