In a greased 8x8 inch baking pan, arrange a layer of chicken, top with a layer of ham, then a layer of cheese. To prepare sauce, melt 4 tablespoons butter, and add flour and thyme. Combine egg and milk, and add slowly to flour mixture. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until smooth and thickened. Pour over chicken. Combine 2 teaspoons melted butter and dry breadcrumbs. Spread over sauce.
