Chili con carne for a crowd

Ingredients

| ¼ | cup | Shortening or vegetable oil |
| 3 | cups | Chopped onions |
| 6 | eaches | Garlic cloves, mashed |
| 8 | pounds | Ground beef |
| ¼ | cup | Chili powder or more to taste |
| 1 | tablespoon | Salt |
| ½ | teaspoon | Red pepper |
| 1 | teaspoon | Black pepper |
| 2 | eaches | 48oz cans tomato soup or tomatoes |
| 7 | quarts | Red kidney beans (14 19oz cans) drained and rinsed |
Directions
SERVES 50
Brown the beef, garlic and onions until done. Add seasonings, soup and beans. cook slowly for about 30-60 minutes, stirring occasionally. VARIATION: For deluxe chili, provide bowls of grated cheese, chopped onions, tomato and sour cream as toppings for individual servings. Origin: Homestyle, Canadian Classics.
