Carrot and apple tzimmes

Yield: 6 servings

Measure Ingredient
4 cups Grated carrots
1 tablespoon Fine barley
¾ cup Grated apples
8 tablespoons Butter or fat
½ cup Water
½ teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Sugar
¼ teaspoon Nutmeg

Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan. Cover and cook over low heat 2 hours, or until the barley is soft. Watch carefully while cooking and add more water if necessary. Serves 6.
