Measure Ingredient
⅔ cup Shortening or butter
2 cups Sugar
1 cup Mashed potatoes
½ cup Sweet milk or coffee
2 cups Flour
2 teaspoons Baking powder
¼ teaspoon Salt
½ cup Ground chocolate (prefer Ghirardeli's)
1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon Ground cloves
½ teaspoon Ground nutmeg
1 cup Chopped walnuts
4 \N Eggs

Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten egg yolks and hot mashed potatoes. Sift together 3 times, the flour, baking powder, salt, chocolate, spices; add nuts. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in three (a must) greased 8-inch layer pans at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool for 30 minutes. Spread on marshmallow frosting and sprinkle with nuts.
