|½ cup||Sugar; to 1 cup|
|750 millilitres||Dry red wine|
Stud orange with cloves and bake it in a 3500 oven until skin is browned., about 40 minutes. Quarter orange and place in a heavy saucepan with water and sugar. Bring to a boil, dissolve sugar and reduce heat. Simmer for 20 minutes. Add wine and heat u ntil the mixture is "smoking hot." Pour in a heated punch bowl and serve.
