½ | teaspoon | Dried lemon peel, or freshly grated to taste |
½ | teaspoon | Ground cardamon |
3 | cups | All-purpose flour |
2 | teaspoons | Rapid or Quick yeast |
½ | cup | Dried fruits (raisins, cherries) |
¼ | cup | Chopped almonds (up to 1/2) |
1 | EGG beaten with: | |
2 | tablespoons | Milk OR cream |

Source: HOLIDAY BREADS - Donna German VI Add dried fruits/nuts to the abm pan 5 min. after kneading starts. Remove dough from abm. Divide into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and braid ropes together. Place braid on lightly greased baking pan.
Cover, let rise about 1-½ hours. Brush dough with EGG WASH Bake in preheated 350° oven 25-30 min. Till golden.
