Hardy vegetable soup

| 2 | tablespoons | Canola oil | 
| ½ | cup | Tomato paste | 
| ½ | cup | Green pepper, diced | 
| 1 | cup | Mixed vegetables * | 
| ½ | tablespoon | Sweet basil | 
| Salt & pepper to taste | ||
| ½ | cup | Macaroni | 
| ½ | cup | Pot barley | 
| 2 | cups | Chicken, beef,ham (leftovers | 
| 2 | cups | Coarsely chopped cabbage |

Directions
In a soup pot saute the celery, onion and garlic in oil for 5 minutes. Add water, vegetables, pot barley, meats, seasonings. Bring to the boil and simmer for 1¼ hours. For last ¼ hour add cabbage and macaroni. * Soup mix
