Yield: 10 servings
Measure | Ingredient |
---|---|
1 cup | Flour |
1½ cup | Corn meal |
1 teaspoon | Baking powder |
2¼ cup | Milk |
½ tablespoon | Sugar |
\N \N | Dash of salt |
2 tablespoons | Louisiana Hot Sauce |
1 pack | Hot Dogs (or for a real heart-stopper, polish sausage -- Hy-Grades makes a \"hot\" variety that will \"kick butt & take down names!\") |
Combine all ingredients to form a batter. If too thick add a little more milk. Dip hot dogs in batter and drop them into hot oil. Fry to golden brown.
This was based on a recipe in out family cookbook with this added to it:
These are like the corn dogs sold at county fairs. The "Cozy Dog" drive in is a landmark in Springfield, Illinois. They specialize in these, and it is sometimes rumored that Uncle Bob knew the owner and got his recipe.
I added the hot sauce and readjusted some quantities.
Serve with mustard.
