Black bean and sausage posole

Ingredients

12ouncesGround turkey sausage
1canReduced-sodium chicken broth; (14.5 oz.)
1canBlack beans; (15 oz.) rinsed and drained
1canGolden hominy; (14.5 ounce) rinsed and drained
1canMexican-style stewed tomatoes; (14.5 ounce) NOT drained
1cupFrozen loose-pack diced hash browns
½cupSweet green peppers; chopped
cupOnion; chopped
1Clove garlic; minced
½teaspoonChili powder
1teaspoonDried oregano; crushed

Directions

In large saucepan, brown sausage. Add green pepper, onion, garlic and cook until tender. Stir in broth, black beans, hominy, tomatoes, potatoes, chili powder and oregano. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 30 minutes.

Serves 6.

NOTES : Made 11-6-97. Added ½ tsp. more chili powder and 1 green chili, chopped. Used Jimmy Dean pork sausage.
