2 ounces | Self-raising flour |
1½ teaspoon | Level baking powder |
\N pinch | Salt |
½ ounce | Soft brown sugar |
2 ounces | Medium oatmeal |
1 ounce | Butter |
1 tablespoon | Black treacle |
1 small | Egg, well beaten |
¼ pint | Milk (scant) |
Sieve the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl and stir in the sugar and the oatmeal. Gently melt the butter and black treacle together in a pan. Add to the dry ingredients and stir in with the well beaten egg and the milk. Heat a thick frying pan or griddle and grease lightly. Drop teaspoons of the mixture on to the pan; as soon as bubbles appear on the surface turn over and cook the other side.
Serve hot with butter.
