Springerle (anise cookies)

Measure Ingredient
4 cups Flour
4 larges Eggs
2 cups Sugar
1 tablespoon Butter
\N \N Anise seed OR
4 \N Drops anise oil
½ teaspoon Baking powder

Beat eggs thoroughly; add sifted sugar and butter. Beat for 15 minutes. Add enough sifted flour to make a stiff dough. Roll out about ½-inch thick. Sprinkle with flour and press the patterns on the dough.

Separate the cakes with a dough cutter and place on a board covered with anise seed or use 4 drops of anise oil stirred into the dough.

Keep in a cool dry place overnight. In the morning bake, in a moderate oven, 350ø, a light brown about 12 minutes.
