Mulberry ice

1Zest of 1 lemon -- cut in
Strips
4ouncesFresh ginger (about 1/2 cup)
Thinly sliced
4cupsFresh mulberries
¼cupPort wine -- (or more)
¼cupLemon juice -- (or more)

Directions

Combine water, sugar, lemon zest, and ginger in a heavy saucepan and boil about 5 minutes. Add the mulberries, bring back to the boil, then remove from heat and let cool. Puree briefly in a food processor or blender, strain, and rub the berries to rele Yields 5½ cups.
