Mulberry ice

Ingredients

| 3 | cups | Water |
| 1½ | cup | Sugar |
| 1 | Zest of 1 lemon -- cut in | |

| 4 | ounces | Fresh ginger (about 1/2 cup) |
| Thinly sliced | ||
| 4 | cups | Fresh mulberries |
| ¼ | cup | Port wine -- (or more) |
| ¼ | cup | Lemon juice -- (or more) |
Directions
Combine water, sugar, lemon zest, and ginger in a heavy saucepan and boil about 5 minutes. Add the mulberries, bring back to the boil, then remove from heat and let cool. Puree briefly in a food processor or blender, strain, and rub the berries to rele Yields 5½ cups.
