Cyn's lentil soup

Ingredients

1 | Bag dried lentils; rinsed & drained | |
1 | cup | Each diced carrots; celery, onion |
1 | tablespoon | Minced garlic |
6 | tablespoons | (or maybe more) veggie broth powder |
Thyme | ||
Crushed cumin seed | ||
Bay leaves | ||
Pepper | ||
1 | can | (large) tomato paste |
3 | tablespoons | Garam masala; or more |
Lots of water; (to cover, I kept adding) |
Directions
Simmer for 1-2 hours, throw in a cup or so of rice. Add more water as rice swells, and more seasoning to taste. Hot sauce is a good thing. Simmer until rice is done. Eat and accept the awed compliments of non-cooks. :-) Posted to fatfree digest V98 #002 by Cynthia Barnes <cbarnes@...> on Jan 2, 1998
