Cyn's lentil soup

Ingredients

QuantityIngredient
1Bag dried lentils; rinsed & drained
1cupEach diced carrots; celery, onion
1tablespoonMinced garlic
6tablespoons(or maybe more) veggie broth powder
Thyme
Crushed cumin seed
Bay leaves
Pepper
1can(large) tomato paste
3tablespoonsGaram masala; or more
Lots of water; (to cover, I kept adding)

Directions

Simmer for 1-2 hours, throw in a cup or so of rice. Add more water as rice swells, and more seasoning to taste. Hot sauce is a good thing. Simmer until rice is done. Eat and accept the awed compliments of non-cooks. :-) Posted to fatfree digest V98 #002 by Cynthia Barnes <cbarnes@...> on Jan 2, 1998
