Ingredients

| 12 | Uncooked pearl barley | |
| 2 | packs | Frozen lima beans; thawed |
| 3 | Fresh tomatoes; or 19oz can | |
| 1 | large | Onion; chopped |
| 2 | Cloves garlic; minced | |
| Salt and pepper; to taste | ||
| 1 | Bay leaf | |
| 2 | teaspoons | Sugar |
| 5 | tablespoons | Parsley |
| ½ | teaspoon | Basil |
| ⅓ | cup | Chicken broth |
| 1 | Bottle vermouth; or white wine | |
Directions
Put sausage in cod frypan. Pour wine half way up sausages. Cover and steam for 15 mins. Remove cover and saute until brown. Remove from frypan. Using a little of the sausage fat, saute the onions and garlic. Add tomatoes, bay leaf, pepper, basiland sugar. Simmer 3 mins. Add broth and ½ cup wine.
Add beans , sausage and 3 tablespoons of parsley. Cover and cook 45 mins.
