6 tablespoons | Water |
FILLING
DOUGH
Cook dried fruit in a little water until softened. Drain & pass through a food press or colander. Add sugar & spices. Let stand to season. While the fruit is cooking, prepare a dough: Sift flour with baking powder & salt.
Cut in shortening & mix well. Add enough water to make a dough easy to handle. Roll out dough on a lightly floured board to ⅛-inch thickness.
Cut dough in rounds 3 inches in diameter. Fill each round with 1 tablespoon of filling. Fold the round in half & pinch the edges between thumb & forefinger. If needed, moisten the edges of the dough to make it stick together. Place on cookie sheet & bake in hot (400 degree) oven until golden brown.
