Christmas eve chocolate cake

Yield: 6 Servings

Measure Ingredient
2 cups Sugar
2 cups Flour
½ cup Shortening
½ cup Butter Or Margarine
1 cup Water
¼ cup Cocoa
½ cup Buttermilk
2 \N Eggs; Beaten
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Vanilla -Icing Ingredients---
½ cup Butter Or Margarine
¼ cup Cocoa
6 tablespoons Milk
1 \N Box Powdered Sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 cup Chopped nuts

Cake: Sift flour and sugar together. Bring butter, shortening, water and cocoa to a boil in a sauce pan. Pour over flour mixture while still hot.

Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla. Spoon into a large baking sheet with sides. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Ice cake while still hot.

Icing: Combine butter, cocoa and milk in a saucepan; bring to a boil.

Remove from heat. Add powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts. Mix well. This recipe from the "Flat Rock Cookbook".
