Pineapple upside down

Measure Ingredient
½ cup Shortening
1 cup Sugar
2 \N Eggs
1¾ cup Sifted flour
1 tablespoon Baking powder
¾ teaspoon Salt
⅔ cup Milk
½ teaspoon Vanilla extract
½ \N Stick butter
1 cup Brown sugar
5 slices Pineapple
5 \N Marachino cherries

*** Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla; mix well. Melt butter in 9-inch square pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar; stir until melted.

Arrange pineapple slices in pan; place cherry in center of each slice. Pour batter over topping. Bake in 3500F oven for 50-60 minutes until done.
