Oatmeal cookies~ old fashioned

Measure Ingredient
1 cup WATER
¾ cup SHORTENING
1½ cup SUGAR
2 eaches EGGS
1 teaspoon VANILLA
2½ cup FLOUR
½ teaspoon BAKING POWDER
1 teaspoon BAKING SODA
1 teaspoon SALT
1 teaspoon CINNAMON
½ teaspoon CLOVES
2 cups ROLLED OATS
½ cup CHOPPED NUTS (OPTIONAL)

MIX SHORTENING, SUGAR, EGGS AND VANILLA. MEASURE FLOUR BY DIPPING METHOD. ADD SALT, SODA, SPICES AND BAKING POWDER TO FLOUR, STIRRING TO MIX. BLEND FLOUR MIX TO SHORTENING MIXTURE. ADD ROLLED OATS.

MIXTURE MAY NEED ABOUT ¼ CUP WATER ADDED. HEAT OVEN TO 4000F. DROP DOUGH BY SPOONFULS ONTO COOKIE SHEETS.
