Measure | Ingredient |

4 larges | Onions, chopped |
6 larges | Carrots, peeled and sliced |
1 pounds | Mushrooms, thinly sliced |
1 pounds | Stew beef, cut into small cubes |
8 cups | Beef broth (made from a soup base or a mix) |
1 cup | Medium barley |
½ teaspoon | Poon salt |
½ teaspoon | Black pepper |
all the ingredients in a soup pot and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat and simmer, partially covered, for about 1 hour. NOTE: If you'd like, add 1 or 2 shots of Irish whiskey with the other ingredients for added flavor. It'll make it really Irish! In addition to the base recipe ingredients, you might want to add some cut-up hot dogs and a teaspoon of caraway seed for Germa ½ teaspoon each of oregano and rosemary for Italian-style soup.
