Apple muffins with crunch topping

Yield: 12 muffins

Measure Ingredient
2 cups Flour, all-purpose
3 teaspoons Baking powder
½ cup Sugar
½ teaspoon Salt
3 tablespoons Shortening
1 Egg; beaten
¾ cup Milk
1 cup Apple; chopped, peeled
⅓ cup Sugar, brown
½ teaspoon Cinnamon, ground
⅓ cup Walnuts; chopped

Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening.

Combine egg and milk. Add to flour mixture; mix until flour is just dampened. Fold in apple. Fill greased muffin tins half full. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts. Sprinkle over batter. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes.
