8 slices | Bread; crusts trimmed off |

4 slices | Cheddar cheese |

\N \N | Salt and pepper to taste |
2 cups | Milk |
Butter bread on both sides. Make 4 sandwiches, using chopped ham and a slice of cheese in each one. Mix egg, salt and pepper. Add milk. Fit sandwiches into 8-inch square pan; pour milk and egg mixture over sandwiches. Let soak for 2 hours, then turn each sandwich with spatula and let stand 1-½ hours more. Bake at 400 for 45 minutes.
