| 1 can | 11-oz. mandarin orange seg- ments |

| 2 teaspoons | Baking soda |
| ½ teaspoon | Salt |
| ¼ cup | Sugar |
| 8 ounces | Sour cream |
| 2 cups | Flour |
| 2 teaspoons | Baking powder |
| ½ cup | Brown sugar |
| 1 | Egg |
| ⅓ cup | Shortening; melted |
Drain orange segments, reserving liquid. Cut segments into halves. Add orange extract to the reserved liquid and add to orange segments. Combine all dry ingredients in a lg. bowl. In a separate bowl, combine egg, sour cream, and melted shortening. Add to dry ingredients. Add oranges and juice, and mix just until moistened. Spoon into greased or paper-lined muffin tins, filling ⅔ full. Bake at 400~ for 20 to 25 mins.
