NOTES : During the 70's, while we were stationed in the Air Force in England, we had a 4th of July party for about 125 people several years in a row. We made several different desserts, but this one was far and away the favorite. We must have made 5 or 6 of this cake, and we couldn't cut it fast enough to keep it on the table. Guests swarmed through it like locusts.
