dorothy's sweet & sour chicken

2 pounds Chicken parts
1 cup Chicken broth
2 tablespoons Brown sugar
2 teaspoons Soy sauce
1 each Med. green pepper
¼ cup Water
8 ounces Pineapple chunks
2 tablespoons Shortening
¼ cup Vinegar
1 each Large onion
3 tablespoons Cornstarch

Drain pineapple,reserving syrup. In skillet brown chicken in shortening. Pour off fat. Add reserved syrup, broth, brown sugar,vinegar, soy sauce and garlic. Cover and cook over low heat 40 minutes. Add green pepper amd pineapple cook 5 minutes. Combine cornstarch and water gradually stir into sauce.
