Candy apple creations (halloween)

Yield: 5 servings

Measure Ingredient
5 smalls Red delicious apples or
\N \N Bartlett pears
5 eaches Wooded craft sticks
1 pack 14 oz caramels -- unwrapped
2 tablespoons Water
\N \N Decorations - see below

Decorations: 4-5 (2 oz) squares chocolate flavored candy coating, melted; 4-5 (2 oz) square vanilla flavored candy coating melted; assorted chopped nuts; white chocolate morsels; semi sweet chocolate morsels; raffia or ribbon.

Hints: Assorted candies and nuts can also be used to change apples and pears into a gallery of goblins.

Wash and dry apples. Insert craft sticks into stem ends of apples and set aside.

Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Lightly grease wax paper and set aside.

Combine caramels and water in top of double boiler bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and cook stirring often until caramels melt. Remove caramel mix from heat. Dip apples in caramel mix, covering completely. (spoon mix over bare spots) Place apples on prepared baking sheet, allowing excess to drain; cool. Chill 1 hour.

Scrape off excess caramel with a knife or metal spatula, if necessary. Decorate if desired. Yield 5 apples For a special treat make apple goblins using chocolate flavored coated candy, vanilla coated candy and assorted candy, chocolate morsels, raisins, nuts, marshmallows, or cookies for eyes, noses, ears, teeth and hats.
