| ½ cup | Granulated sugar |

| ½ cup | Milk |
| 1 teaspoon | Vanilla extract |

| ¼ cup | Cocoa |
| ¾ cup | Brown sugar -- packed |
| 1½ cup | Water -- boiling |
Combine cake ingredients. Stir to blend. Spread batter in 8 by 8 by 2-inch pan, bottom rubbed with shortening. Combine topping ingredients, stirring until cocoa is thoroughly dissolved. Pour over batter. (Don't be afraid! It is NOT a mistake.) Bake in a 350 F.
