2 cups | Flour |
1 teaspoon | Baking powder |
1 teaspoon | Baking soda |
¼ teaspoon | Salt |
1 cup | Sugar |
½ cup | Shortening |
2 \N | Eggs |
1 teaspoon | Vanilla |
1 cup | Sour cream |
2 cups | Chopped apples |
¼ cup | Water |
½ cup | Chopped nuts |
½ cup | Brown sugar |
1 teaspoon | Cinnamon |
2 teaspoons | Butter; melted |
Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda & salt. Cream sugar & shortening. Beat into creamed mixture the eggs & vanilla. Add this to flour mixture along with sour cream, adding alternately. In small pan simmer apples with water just until slightly soft. Do not cook too long. Fold in apples. Pour batter into round, greased & floured cake pans. Combine nuts, brown sugar & cinnamon. Pour melted butter over these & stir. Sprinkle mixture over tops of bread. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. This makes a great holiday gift for a special friend. Bake in aluminum cake pans, wrap with plastic wrap & tie with Christmas red ribbon. May be made ahead of time & frozen.
